Pescalis Fishing Complex
It's just ten minutes drive to Pescalis fishing complex, one of Europe's largest inland fishing lakes with a range of fishing attractions for all ages. Beautiful lakeside walks and a lakeside restaurant, children’s play areas and boating lake, pony rides, local farmers market and other seasonal attractions. Bike hire available at reasonable rates for daily or weekly hire.
Drive just five minutes to ULM's airfield where you can experience a thrilling microlight flight over the stunning Gatine scenery. You can even have a go at piloting the microlight after an initial lesson or just let the pilot do the work whilst you sit back and enjoy the ride.
Forest of Adventure
Five minute drive for family fun swinging safely through the trees with zip wires, open in the summer season with a children's play area, small café and new 18 hole crazy golf course. Three different tree swinging courses are available to cater for everyone from children of three years old up to adults.
Five minutes drive to an exciting open air go karting track open all year with café.
La Roche Brantlant
Ten minutes drive to a natural wonder, wild parkland with huge granite boulders spanning the river, interesting country walks and children’s play area.
Horse Riding with English Instructors
Experience the joy of riding wonderful horses in the French countryside with Sarah who runs an English speaking and friendly stable just fifteen minutes drive from our cottages. She has horses suitable for all stages of riders including children and for the more experienced you can enjoy a fabulous hack through the sunflower fields.
Open Air Swimming Pool
Fifteen minutes drive to Secondigny lakes with walks, restaurant with lakeside views, children’s play area and a large clean open air swimming pool open in the summer months.
Vouvant & Mervant Forest
Twenty minutes drive takes you to the rugged forest of Mervent with tree lined slopes and meandering rivers, a walkers paradise. There is a lovely children's zoo and Parc de Pierre Brune for family fun in the summer months. Vouvant is a magical old picturesque village with a fairy story and ruins to explore,refresh yourself in the tea-rooms, cafes and art galleries.
Animal Park and Zoo
The zoo at Mervent is only twenty minutes from the cottage and has a good selection of animals and a great new children's play area.
Zoodyssée is a more educational zoo about an hour and a half away which specialises in the animals that are native to Europe.
Only forty minutes drive to the nearest challenging golf course which also has a 6 hole pitch and put, driving range and beautiful chateaux for light refreshments at Maziers-en-Gatine. Les Forges Golf course offers a flatter course which is just over an hours drive away but please check out all the local courses on the website below.
Puy Du Fou
Forty minutes drive to this unique theme park for all ages. Puy du Fou is a "not to be missed" experience with live shows in beautiful surroundings, themed villages full of local crafts, rustic rare breed animals, gardens with lakes and fountains, a history of the Vendeen Wars and plenty of eating places. It is educational, artistic and exciting!
The Green Venice
Fifty minutes drive to the Marais Poitevin, an area of outstanding natural beauty with pretty villages and ancient waterways, explore on foot, hire a bike or take a boat ride.
Seventy minutes drive to the Pont de Ré, the beautiful bridge that takes you to this atmospheric island. Explore picturesque ports, light houses, forts, salt marshes, sandy beaches and seafood producers. Hire a bike to enjoy the special sights of this chic yet unspoilt island. A perfect day out and one of our most favourite places.
Seventy minutes drive takes you to this chic seaside resort for shopping, seafood, historic forts, the aquarium and boat trips to Fort Boyard and the local islands.
Eighty minutes drive to this fun family full day out at the cinematic theme park, 3D shows, amazing simulator rides, a brilliant childs play area plus fabulous modern architecture and great places to eat.
Eighty minutes drive to wonderful sandy beaches, seafood and boat trips.
It's only a two hour drive to the historic town of Cognac. Visit the Charente river and take a tour of the various Cognac houses that offer a tasting of their finest Cognac along with an interesting vineyard tour.
There's a huge variety of chateaux within driving distance of the cottage that are worth a visit. Many of them hold special events during the summer. Here are the websites for a few local ones.
Guided tours around the silver mines that date back from the time of Charlemagne are available at Melle, just over an hours drive from the cottage are great for an educational trip whilst Melle also offers an arboretum and stunning romanesque churches.
Coal Mining Museum
Visit the little mining village of Faymoreau just twenty minutes drive from the cottage to glimpse into the bygone world of French coal mining history. The workers cottages and village church are worth seeing and the mine is open as a museum.
The trend for Japanese gardens in the late 1890s spread to France and the Parc Oriental de Maulévrier is a fine example. It's an hours drive from the cottage and is open from March to November and is stunning during the autumn months.
Tour de France
France is a wonderful place for cyclists with peaceful country lanes and cycle friendly drivers. Pitch yourself against the best and retrace a leg of the 2005 Tour De France route nearby. Please bring your own bikes.
